また、日本のゴルフ場でも外国人と一緒にプレーする機会のある人もいるでしょう。
そんな時に、あなたが英語で困らないようにと、ゴルフ用語や簡単な会話ができる英語の知識を見つけておきましょう。
たとえ一口会話でも、できるとできないとでは、ゴルフの楽しさが全く違います。
ティーグラウンド、フェアウェイ、グリーンのそれぞれのシーンに分けて英語でゴルフに挑戦してみましょう。

１．グリーンを狙う

slickは本来「すべすべしている」という意味です。
このグリーンは速い。
“This green is fast.”
“This green is slick.”
グリーンが傾斜している
slope
グリーンが左から右へ傾斜している。
“This green slopes from left to right.”
このグリーンは傾斜がきつい。
“This green slopes steeply.”
３．グリーン上で
どちらが遠いかな？
“Who's (further) away?”
パットをどちらが先に打つか決めるときに使います。

日本語ではスライスライン、フックラインといいますが、英語ではグリーン上ではそうした言い方はしません。
むずかしいパットになるね。

パットはputtでもputでもオーケーですが、puttのほうがふつうです。
私にはまっすぐに見えます。
“It looks straight to me.”
私ならまっすぐ狙います。
“I would play it straight into the hole.”
私ならカップの内側を狙うねo
“I would play it just inside the cup.”
まっすぐしっかり打って
“Hit it straight and firm enough.”
パー確実だよ。

絶対入るよ。
